hotComm CL for IT Administrators
hotComm CL is a "lite" Windows client for participating in multi-media online meetings. Participants download, install, and start hotComm CL, and then click a weblink to join a hotMeeting room.
About hotComm CL
Participants act as guest, presenter, or moderator, depending on the password entered when joining the room. Guest features include typed messages and voice-over-IP. Presenter features also include presenting images (still or a timed series) or webcam video.
System Requirements
The minimum system requirements are:

- Windows XP. Vista or Windows 7/8 on a PC. You may need to be logged in with Administrator
Privileges to install and start the software if you're downloading to a PC on a corporate network.
- Minimum RAM: 512K RAM for text chat only, (bare minimum)
- BEST by Microsoft is recommended 1 gigabyte of RAM for multi-media (i.e. VoIP, 1.0 Second updating visual graphics programs/trading platforms AND text/typing "chat") presentations, (Typical Setup: Windows Vista, 7 or 8 64 bit machine - 32 bit machines can have less RAM)
NOTE: more RAM may be needed for presenting, recording and/or running multiple programs at the same time.
- 10 MB of hard disk space for installation.
- An high-speed (preferably wired) Internet connection.
- Microsoft DirectX 9.0 or higher. See

- For audio, the Truespeech audio codec must be installed. See
Truespeech in "I can't hear anyone".
- For speaking, a noise-cancelling microphone is recommended.
- For Webcam, your camera must support Windows Imaging Acquisition (WIA).
Firewall, Privacy and Security requirements: Be sure to allow hotComm
to access the Internet through your firewall, privacy and security software, and
grant it all possible rights. For more information, see "Firewalls" at Firewalls FAQ.
Ports
These are the hotComm port requirements and recommendations:

For best performance, open all outbound ports. If outbound ports are blocked, connections are tunneled through standard web ports, such as 80 or 8080. Tunneled connections are slower.

Outbound ports must be open for Webcam (video) presenters.

Inbound ports do not need to be opened.
The participant's connection status is shown in the lower right corner of the hotComm CL window.

Proxy Servers
Participants who access the Internet through proxy servers must provide proxy server settings to hotComm CL. To open the hotComm Proxy Settings window:
- During installation, the Proxy Settings window may appear automatically.
- Click the connection status (Online-Proxied, etc.) in the lower right corner of the hotComm CL window.
You can enter the proxy settings in that window and/or click the Get browser settings button to import settings from Internet Explorer.
Firewalls and Downloads
If your firewall prevents downloading executable programs, then:
- Download this file: http://168.143.162.90/hclsetup.zip.
- Open hclsetup.zip with an un-zip program, and extract this file: hclsetup.eze.
- Rename hclsetup.eze to hclsetup.exe and run it to install hotComm CL.
The size of the executable is less than 10Mb.

How to join a hotMeeting
- Download, install and start hotComm CL.
- Enter an Identity* (the name others see) and check your audio sound.
- Click the hotMeeting weblink that the meeting organizer gives you.
- Enter the password you're given.

Checking Audio
Please check your audio before the meeting starts, to ensure that your hotComm is configured correctly for hotComm's TrueSpeech voice-over-IP technology. Also take this opportunity to set your speaker and microphone volume.
To check audio, right-click the hotComm icon in the lowest right corner of your entire screen and select Change Identity. Then click Test Sound.
