hotComm CL for IT Administrators
hotComm CL is a "lite" Windows client for participating in multi-media online meetings. Participants download, install, and start hotComm CL, and then click a weblink to join a hotMeeting room.
About hotComm CL
Participants act as guest, presenter, or moderator, depending on the password entered when joining the room. Guest features include typed messages and voice-over-IP. Presenter features also include presenting images (still or a timed series) or webcam video.
System Requirements
The minimum system requirements are:
Windows clients:
hotComm,
hotComm Lite,
and hotComm CL
- Windows 2000, XP or Vista on a PC. You must log in with Administrator Privileges to install and start the software.
- Minimum RAM: 256K RAM for text chat only, 512K RAM for multi-media presentations, more may be needed for presenting, recording and/or running other programs at the same time.
- 10 MB of hard disk space for installation.
- An Internet connection.
- Microsoft DirectX 9.0 or higher. See Microsoft for DirectX downloads.
- For audio, the Truespeech audio codec must be installed. See Truespeech in "I can't hear anyone".
- For speaking, a noise-cancelling microphone.
- For Webcam, your camera must support Windows Imaging Acquisition (WIA).
Firewall, Privacy and Security requirements:
Be sure to allow hotComm to access the Internet through your firewall, privacy and security software, and grant it all possible rights. For more information, see "Firewalls" at Firewalls FAQ.
Ports
These are the hotComm port requirements and recommendations:
-
For best performance, open all outbound ports. If outbound ports are blocked, connections are tunneled through standard web ports, such as 80 or 8080. Tunneled connections are slower.
-
Outbound ports must be open for Webcam (video) presenters.
-
Inbound ports do not need to be opened.
The participant's connection status is shown in the lower right corner of the hotComm CL window.

- During installation, the Proxy Settings window may appear automatically.
- Click the connection status (Online-Proxied, etc.) in the lower right corner of the hotComm CL window.
You can enter the proxy settings in that window and/or click the Get browser settings button to import settings from Internet Explorer.
Firewalls and Downloads
If your firewall prevents downloading executable programs, then:
- Download this file: http://168.143.162.90/hclsetup.zip.
- Open hclsetup.zip with an un-zip program, and extract this file: hclsetup.eze.
- Rename hclsetup.eze to hclsetup.exe and run it to install hotComm CL.
The size of the executable is less than 10Mb.
