Microphone

Mic Icon

Use the microphone button when speaking.

Voice chat button graphic Open Mic

Left-click to turn your microphone on, and start speaking. Left-click again to turn your microphone off.

VoIP Settings

Right-click the Mic icon to open the VoIP Settings window, where you can change your microphone and audio settings. See VoIP Settings Window.

Push and hold it while you record a message. Release the button to play the message.

Open mic disabled Open Mic Disabled

Your microphone is disabled.

  • A Moderator or Session Host has disabled microphones for all public users.

  • Your computer does not have enough bandwidth to send audio right now. The icon returns to normal status when the bandwidth becomes available.
Push-to-talk disabled Push-to-Talk Mic disabled

A Moderator or Session Host has disabled microphones for all public users.

Volume and Balance

To adjust volume and balance, right-click the hotComm microphone icon. This opens the VoIP Settings window. You can adjust volume and balance through the VOIP Settings window.

Note that this changes the volume and balance for your computer, not just hotComm. You can also change the volume and balance through your computer Audio Controls.

Setting Instructions
Speaker Volume Adjust speaker balance

With your cursor, move the arrow on the Left-Right horizontal scale until the sound is balanced correctly between your left and right speakers.

Adjust speaker volume

With your cursor, move the arrow on the vertical scale up for louder or down for softer.

Microphone Volume Adjust microphone balance

With your cursor, move the arrow on the Left-Right horizontal scale until the sound is balanced correctly between your left and right microphones.

Note: if you have only one microphone, the arrow stays in the center and does not move.

Adjust microphone volume

With your cursor, move the arrow on the vertical scale up for louder or down for softer.

The bar on the right shows the effective current volume.
