Recording with Standard/Pro - hotComm .HCR format
With hotComm Standard/Pro, you can record a session. One of the format options is HCR, or native hotComm recording format.
- Native hotComm format includes your choice of many of the different elements that you see in a live session.
- Playback is through hotComm CL, hotComm Lite or hotComm Standard/Pro only. The Playback has the same windows as the original session.
- When recording into this format, hotComm records the data received by your copy of hotComm, regardless of whether the original windows are minimized or not.
Intellectual Property protection - Room moderators may disable recording in their session. If the moderator has disabled Recording, then third-party recording products are automatically closed, with a notice, and other methods of copying or saving content are also disabled.
Setup, Start and Stop Recording

To setup the recording, right-click the button, make your selections and click Ok. See Session Recording Setup, below.

To start recording a session, click the Session Recording button (R-in-a-circle).

|
To stop recording, click the button again. While recording continues, the button has a blue background.
|
|
When timed recording is enabled, the color of the circle is green.

Note: hotComm Lite and hotComm CL can record audio only. See Recording Audio.

Session Recording Setup
To configure the recording:
- Open Session Recording Setup:
- Right-click the Session Recording button,
or
- Select Session and then Session Record Timer Setup.
- Make your selections (described below)
- Click OK.

Record Options
Check the parts of the session you want to record:
| Option | Description |
| Audio | All audio played in the session, including pre-defined sounds. Audio is selected by default. |
| hotPointer | hotPointer arrow used on Timed Camera shots. |
| Transcript | Typed messages in the transcript area, including private messages in your own transcript. |
| Still Camera | Still Camera shots. |
| Timed Camera | Timed Camera shots. |
| Web Camera | Web Camera shots. |
Timed Recording
You can set the recording to start and end at specified times.
- Check Enable Timed Recording.

Use the timer arrows to set Start and End times.
Note:
- You can set one time period.
- The time is taken from your computer's time settings.
- The recording timer is automatically reset at midnight, so the time period must be within a 24-hour period running from midnight to midnight, based on your computer's time settings.
- You can not set the timer for a future date. However, if you leave Enable Timed Recording checked, another recording will be made at the same time every day.
If Enable Timed Recording is set, you can also make other recordings at any time by clicking the Record button. Note that if your other recording overlaps the End Time for a timed recording, the recording will stop according to the End Time setting.
Maintain Library
Click Maintain Library to open the T'SCRIPTS folder, where the recording files are saved. This view shows all files in the T'SCRIPTS folder, not just recording files.
Distributing Session Recordings
Session recordings can be played back by anyone using a hotComm Windows product (hotComm Standard/Pro, hotComm Lite, hotComm CL). The only file you need to distribute is the .hcr file.
You can rename the file, as long as it has the .hcr extension.
Offline playback - the recording can be played back without hotComm being connected to the Internet.
Web distribution - you can post the .hcr file on your website, with a link to the file. When someone clicks the link, hotComm is launched on their computer and the recording plays. They must have a hotComm windows product installed.
