hotComm User Files

The hotComm user data folders contain your data and configuration files, such as transcripts, screen shots, and recordings.

Note: hotComm client means hotComm Standard/Pro or hotComm Lite or hotComm CL.

These are the folders that contain files you are likely to use:

  • USR folder

    The USR folder holds configuration and settings files:

    ABBREXP.HCA Abbreviation Expansion Default and custom abbreviations and expansions.
    CONTACTS.HCD hotComm Data Standard/Pro User List
    ENUMFLDR.HCD hotComm Data Standard/Pro File Sharing folders
    FOLDERS.HCD hotComm Data Standard/Pro File Sharing folders
    HCFrame.HCD hotComm Data Window locations, saved passwords (encrypted), initialization and configuration settings.
    HOTSCRIPT.TXT Text Document hotScript transcript. hotScript records the typed postings of the people you selected to include in your hotScript. You can see this in the hotComm hotScript panel, and you can open this with any text editor.
    NET.HCD hotComm Data Saved connection settings from previous connections.
    PERSONAL.HCD hotComm Data Encrypted information about your installation.
    *.gz zip file hotComm CL connection file, in hotComm server installations.


  • CFG folder

    This folder contains the Standard/Pro Registration file, HCRG.DAT.



  • DOWNLOADS folder

    This is the default folder for files that Standard/Pro users get from other Standard/Pro users through File Sharing.



  • UPLOADS folder

    This folder contains copies of camera shots posted in the room, and of files posted in the room. Note that it only contains copies of the postings you see, not of posting that appear only as links unless you click them.

    *.HCC hotComm Compressed Data Snapshot of a hotComm camera shot. Once you open this with your hotComm client, you can save it as a .JPG file.


  • T'SCRIPTS folder

    This folder holds saved session transcripts, recordings and audio files.

    File Contents Use
    *.HCR hotComm Recording Session recording in hotComm native format (.HCR). If you recorded it, there should be a .WAV file by the same name. If you are playing a recording made by someone else, it creates a .WAV file with a matching name when you play it. You play this recording through a hotComm client.
    *.HCS hotComm Document Session tramscript. You can open it with a hotComm client or with programs that read rich text format (RTF) files, such as Microsoft Word.
    *.WAV Wave Sound Audio recording, or the audio portion of a .HCR-format hotComm Standard/Pro session recording. You can play this with many media players, such as Windows Media Player.
    *.WMV Windows Media Audio/Video file Session recording in Windows Media Player (WMF) format. You can play this back with many media players, such as Windows Media Player.


  • WEB folder

    This folder contains miscellaneous files and folders for specific sets of files.

    Folder Contents
    AU Audio files used when sending sounds to IM-Live Java users.
    CRM Files used with the Call Group Manager product.
    HC Messages used with the Content Relay Manager server product.
    IM-LIVE IM-Live files, including the pages accessed by IM-Live callers, the IM-Live Java applet, and graphics used by IM-Live.
    IMG Custom emoticon graphics
    TEMP Temporary files created when posting still shots.


    Some of the miscellaneous files are:
    File Description
    DEFAULT.HTM Default webpage seen by ezPeer visitors. You can create links to display material in any file or folder in the WEB folder.





How long are hotComm user files saved?

Folder Explanation
T'SCRIPTS This holds transcripts and recording files. Files are not automatically deleted.
USR .gz files are deleted every 7 days. Other files contain settings and are permanent.
DOWNLOADS Files are deleted automatically after 2 days. Std/Pro has a feature that can change the setting*.
UPLOADS This holds the graphic images. Files are deleted automatically after 2 days. Std/Pro has a feature that can change the setting*.
WEB .gz files are deleted every 7 days. Other files are permanent.
WEB/LOG .gz are deleted every 7 days.
* In Standard/Pro, you can change the settings through the File Sharing Preferences feature. Click the File Sharing button, then click the Wrench icon. Set Uploads and Downloads to the number of days you want to keep the file. Zero (0) means to keep the files indefinately.
