How to fix the address

If your error message indicates that there is a mistake in the address, it usually means that you are typing the address into a Connect to Target Site window from the chat client, or clicking a Connect to roomname shortcut on your desktop. Instructions are provided for both methods. Note that if you have been using one of these methods, you can switch to the other.

What to do

Connect to Target Site window

If you are connecting through the Connect to Target Site window, do this:

1. Start your hotComm client.

2. If a "Connect to" window does not pop up, click the Green Person button, or click File, then Connect to Target Site.

3. Erase the entry in the Target Site, and type the correct room address in the format Relayserver:roomname, including the : colon.

4. Type in the room password you were given.

5. Click Connect.

Connect to Roomname shortcut

If you are connecting by clicking a "Connect to roomname" shortcut on your desktop, do this:

1. Delete your existing "Connect to roomname" shortcut.

2. Run the hotComm Shortcut Utility from http://www.hotcomm.com/downloadshortcut.asp.

3. When prompted to add a Shortcut, click Yes.

4. When prompted for Relay and Room, type in the relayserver and roomname correctly, without spaces, and click OK.

5. When prompted to add a second shortcut, click No.

This places a Connect to Roomname shortcut on your desktop. To connect to the room, double-click the "Connect to" shortcut, and type in the room password when prompted.

Note that some people find it works better to do this as a 2-step process -- double-click the "hotComm CL" icon to start hotComm CL and then double-click the "Connect to" shortcut to join the room.
