This document describes how to use WebCam full-motion video.


Webcam

During a session, you can instantly send video or captured video images.

Webcam button To start sending video images, click the Webcam button. It immedately starts sending full motion video and opens the hotComm View panel.

You can use the Control and Format options to change the characteristics of the video.

You can select different transmission options, including:

OptionDescription
StillSend a single image, one frame from the video.
CollaborativeSend a Still image, but open it in a hotWeb window. You and peers can use Transparent Collaborator to make comments on it.
TimedSend a series of still images at a specified interval. To set the interval, use hotComm Preferences (the Wrench button).
Full MotionSend a steady stream of images, resulting in a full motion effect (at a much smaller bandwidth usage than actual streaming video).

To stop sending video, close the hotComm View Panel window.


Supported Video Devices

Supported video devices: Your video camera or device must support the Windows Imaging Acquisition (WIA).


SmileCam USB

Through an arrangement with Savany, Inc., 1stWorks sells Smilecam USB, a high quality web camera that can pan, tilt and rotate.

You can send video to your callers, and they can move your camera around your space. The IM-Live Java client has been specially adapted to allow Java peers to manipulate the camera remotely.
